Bryan Briscoe: Earlier Works

Introduction
I am a new watercolor artist to the state of New York and I create and teach watercolor painting. Currently I am in the process of settling my studio in Saranac, NY. My parents and close siblings are originally from Maryland and Virginia, along the Chesapeake Bay. When I am not actively painting I extend my creativity to our Saranac gardens where I continued to learn about growing fruit, vegetables and herbs. My immediate professional creative goals are to continue to create art and to teach locally.

Art Statement
To me art is about expressing my thoughts and feelings and about my inner world and the world around me in a way that communicates to the viewer the subject’s spiritual essence. My purpose is to evoke an emotional attachment to the subject. I feel I’ve succeeded with my art when the subject mentally consumes me.

My medium of choice is watercolor, but I have been known to also use acrylics and pastels when I think the subject calls for it. My favorite subjects are people being naturally authentic and elements of nature elevated to stylized forms. My work has won awards, scholarships
and has been sold inside and outside the United States.

Appreciating My Instructors
I trained with Mr. Petrasic, in Paxton Pennsylvania, as a young artist. Mr. Petrasic taught me how to create rich colors in my watercolor paintings. In my high school art class, in Middletown Pennsylvania, I studied under Mrs. Condran, who encouraged me to continue to create and enter art competitions. As a result and because of her encouragement I received summer art scholarships to study at Harrisburg Community College and the York Academy for the Arts, in Pennsylvania. I also would like to appreciate my art Professors at Massachusetts College of Art for their enthusiasm for my work and encouraging reviews during my four-year tenure.
